the one minute mystic
How to use the meditations

1. Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed.

2. Read through the whole meditation a few times, then put it down.

3. Sit in a position both comfortable and alert.

4. Allow the meditation 10 minutes or so in your imagination. Do not give up before this time; stay with it.

5. Allow another 10 minutes for recording what happened. Allow events to develop as you record.
  MEDITATION 41
MEETING MY NEEDS

Everyone has needs, and many we share with all people; the need for food, warmth and acceptance for instance.

Other needs will be more particular to our selves, however.

Our needs are fundamental to us; strong, driving forces in all we do. And we work hard to ensure they are met.

Do you know what your needs are? And how you go about having them met?

Because we are desperate people, we do use (and abuse?) others in this pursuit – and can sometimes judge them if they don't come up to scratch: "You are not meeting my needs!"

They then become our enemies.

The pursuit of our needs does not always make us attractive people; but by pausing to name them, we pick up a diamond from the treasure trove of self-knowledge.

Once named, they are out in the open – and much less damaging to our selves and others.

Consider

What are your main needs – apart from food and warmth?

One way to find out is to reflect on situations in which we feel the strongest emotions. Feelings of happiness, anger, paralysis, elation, resentment, peace, relief or fear suggest our needs are involved.

Do you go to others to have your needs met?

No one is responsible for meeting your needs, of course, but sometimes we make them so, and blame accordingly. Or idolise inappropriately.

So could you name your five biggest needs – and your strategies for having them met?

Observe without judgement. This is all gold.
