How to use the meditations
1. Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed.
2. Read through the whole meditation a few times, then put it down.
3. Sit in a position both comfortable and alert.
4. Allow the meditation 10 minutes or so in your imagination. Do not give up before this time; stay with it.
5. Allow another 10 minutes for recording what happened. Allow events to develop as you record. |

MEDITATION 39
BEFORE YOUR TIME
Do you remember before you were formed?
And is it possible that before you took solid, fleshy shape, shrouded words were spoken in your ear?
Rilke, the poet, imagines God walking with us to the brink of earthy existence: "You will know when you arrive by how real it is."
So much unknown; so much ahead.
"Dare to the edge of longing!" says the voice. "Let it all happen to you: beauty and dread. Simply go no feeling is too much and only this way can we stay in touch."
Imagine
You could return to that walk long ago; your walk to the brink of birth.
Your forming self fragile in shape and innocence.
It's a long time ago; those beginning days and much water under the bridge since then; many feelings.
But shall we make history young again?
"Here is the land that they call life!"
Those were the words.
"You will know when you arrive by how real it is."
Return to the scene.
"Give me your hand."
