MEDITATION 10
SHEDDING SKINS
Have you watched a snake shedding its skin?
It leaves it in the grass and creeps away.
It does this when it no longer has need of it; when the old skin has served its purpose, and new skin is ready.
It has to shed the old skin because it is wrinkled and has no life in it; it's no longer a living thing.
Have you shed some skins in your life? Played roles which you then had to put down?
Perhaps you have played many down the years, prouder of some than others.
But that's what it is to live.
Imagine
If you were a snake counting your skins, how many would there be?
As you move through the grass, visiting old sites, what discarded skins do you find?
Which skins bring happy memories, and which bring sad?
All those roles played in childhood and beyond!
Are you living in dead skin now?
There's always new skin, fresh skin, growing.
You are an amazing beast always becoming.
